Create an Online Presence as a Writer

A Writer Online Presence Is Important

With so many writers throughout the world it can be difficult to get your name known. It is hard, but it’s not impossible. It just takes a bit of time and hard work. This article outlines 4 ways that you, as a writer, can get your name known to other writers and as well as your readers.

1. Start a blog

Blogging is important for writers. It’s how you connect to your readers and other writers. As a writer you want your blog to be writing oriented. You want to blog about what you’re writing, the writing life and even what you’re reading. While you can talk about your personal life, you want to make sure that you don’t turn your blog into a place to vent. You want your blog to be a place people want to stop by and enjoy themselves.

2. Join networking sites

A good way for a writer to connect with people is to join networking sites. If you join just a few of the most popular networking sites you can easily be found by readers who enjoy your work. The nice thing about networking sites these days is that you can usually update them all at once as most of them allow syncing with each other. You won’t have to worry about spending too much time updating your status on each one individually, but you will still get your name and work out there for all to read.

3. Promote yourself

As a writer you cannot be shy about promoting your work. As you will find, there are writers who go to extraordinary lengths to promote their new works. In order to get your work the recognition it deserves, you must do the same. You don’t have to go crazy with your promoting, but it’s important that you let people know when you have a new piece of work published.

4. Create an online portfolio

You can create a portfolio page on your blog or you can set up another site specifically to house your portfolio. If you have your own website you can put all of your writing related items there to keep everything in one place instead of requiring people to locate different websites. If you do have a couple of different links, make sure they are visible. Don’t forget to promote both your blog and your website, otherwise people won’t know that they exist. An online portfolio is especially important so that editors can see where you’ve been published before and even see samples of your writing. Don’t forget to include your contact info on your portfolio.

Creating an online presence is important for a writer. As a writer you want your work to be seen and read. You also want to receive feedback on your work. When you begin creating an online presence for yourself and your work, you will begin to build a following of loyal readers.
